You have about 10 seconds to make a statement with your resume to a
prospective employer. As senior citizens stay in the workforce longer,
they need to stay up to date on their resume in order to apply for
jobs. A senior's resume should reflect his or her occupational
strengths and life skills. I highly recommend you read this article
about tweaking your resume: Tweak Your Resume - And Reduce Chances of
Age Discrimination in the Hiring Process. Below are steps you can take
to write a good resume for a senior citizen:

1. Start in a word document with a business type font such as Times
New Roman or Arial. You need to start with your contact information:
name, address, and telephone number.

2. If you don't have an email address, you should probably get one and
include it in your resume. In today's workforce, employers prefer to
use the Internet and having an email shows that you at least have
basic computer skills.

3. List your education with your most recent first and then work
backwards. Make sure to include any certification classes or
continuing education classes you have had through previous jobs. You
can also list any education you are currently enrolled in.

4. Outline your employment history and identify the specific skills
you have gained and used in each position. Try not to go back more
than three or four jobs or 10-15 years.

5. Make sure to slant your resume towards the job you are applying
for. Make sure to include jobs, skills, and interests that are
pertinent for that particular job.

6. Avoid listing personal information like why you left a position or
your salary history. You can always include in your cover letter that
you will be happy to discuss employment experience at an interview.

7. End your resume with "references supplied upon request." Make sure
to ask several people to act as references. If you are asked to supply
names, be sure to choose someone who can best represent you for the
job for which you are applying.

8. Write a cover letter geared towards the particular job. Make sure
to stress that you have a good work ethic, are eager to learn new
skills, and want to take any training courses that are available.

Today I saw a lizard chasing its prey on our cemented garden floor and
succeeding. What a disappointment! It was a piece of floating cotton!
